Under Sink Filters: Safe Water, No Clutter

What's in your water?
Safe & Delicious Water

Under sink water filters are a great option if you like a clutter-free kitchen.

There's no filter, valves, or tubing on your counter. Just a special faucet near the kitchen sink.

Some filters are even available with brass or nickel faucets to match your kitchen decor.

With the filter out of site, you might even consider a larger model that filters special contaminants like fluoride, nitrates, or arsenic.

Under sink water filters do take a bit longer to install than counter top models.

If you've done light plumbing repairs, you can install an under sink filter.

Can I Attach the Fridge to my Under Sink Filter?

Yes, you can attach a refrigerator to a filter and have water delivered at the sink as well. Only three things to watch out for:

  1. You need a "constant pressure" water filter, which means the filter is hooked up directly to the water line so there is always water pressure in the filter housing.

All the LivingWaters models are "constant pressure" systems.

Some models like the Aquasana place the faucet valve between the water filter and the input water line. This has the advantage of minimizing opportunities for leaks in the filter and/or tubing, but the water only flows when the faucet valve is open.

With a refrigerator attached, you need the water to flow through the filter whenever someone turns on the faucet at the sink, or at the fridge.
  2. Just get a "T" for the water supply tubing from your local hardware store (be sure it is for drinking water, not an irrigation system), and place it on the output side of the filter.

One line goes to the special sink faucet and the other goes to the refrigerator.
  3. Watch the connections carefully for the first few days to insure there are no leaks. Even a tiny drip can really mess up your cabinets over time.

You should also turn off the water supply valve when leaving for vacation...just in case.
