The Ster-O-Tap cartridge includes a capillary bundle of ultrafiltration membranes, closed on one side and open on the other. This capillary bundle is embedded in a carbon block.
Water passes through the carbon block and into the capillary bundle, leaving behind 99.9999999% of bacteria, molds, and spores along with 99.999% of viruses.
This leaves the water safer from microorganisms than any purification method except for boiling.

UltraFiltration: Better than Reverse Osmosis
By using a special polymer blend, Ster-O-Tap achieves a combination of properties that was not possible before. Unlike reverse-osmosis:
- Ster-O-Tap does not waste 3-7 gallons of water for every gallon produced
- Ster-O-Tap does not remove healthy and good tasting minerals like calcium and magnesium
- Ster-O-Tap does not make your water more acidic
- Ster-O-Tap dispenses a continuous supply of water. Since you can't run out of water like with reverse osmosis systems, you can use pure water for drinking, washing vegetables, boiling pasta, and for all cooking and food related use.
- Ster-O-Tap does not require a storage tank, so you save lots of space under your kitchen sink.
- Ster-O-Tap cannot "break-through" like reverse osmosis membranes. A "break-through" is a tear in the reverse osmosis membrane that allows water to pass through, unpurified.
