The Carbon Block Resin Difference
The difference between granular activated carbon (GAC) and carbon block resin (CBR) is that with carbon block, the resin has a consistent structure, so that water cannot channel through the filter media like it can with granular carbon.

More About Carbon Block Filters
With a carbon block, all water is forced to contact the carbon instead of channeling through spaces in the granular media. Pore sizes are so small that 99.95% of dangerous cysts and most bacteria cannot make it through.
LivingWaters ™ filters include a premium Carbon Block Resin (CBR) media. These are made from a premium coconut shell carbon material that is powdered, mixed with a special resin that removes heavy metals, then formed into a solid carbon block.
Many competing products use carbon block media made from coal instead of coconut shell. The coal based filters are cheaper, so they can be replaced more often. Frequent replacement is necessary with filters that don't have the Doulton Sterasyl ® Ceramic and KDF ® 55 pre-filters.
Because of the pre-filter, our coconut shell CBR media lasts over twice as long, making our LivingWaters ™ systems among the most economical to maintain.
Coconut shell carbon absorbs a wide variety of organic contaminants including compounds that create tastes and odors in water, insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, and other volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) found in municipal water systems.
