I got my Sprite shower filter and really love it!
The instructions suggest back flushing the filter every month, but there are no details on exactly how to do this.
Can you tell me how to back flush my shower filter?
Back flushing is very simple. Once a month, simply remove the shower filter cartridge and put it back in the opposite direction.
The idea is to have the water flow through the cartridge in the opposite direction so the filtration media does not get compacted towards one end of the cartridge.
Back flushing also reduces the chance of “channels” forming, which allow water to flow through the filter without proper contact with the filtration media.
Note that back flushing does not dump chlorine back into your shower water, because chlorine is transformed into harmless chloride by KDF, rather than being held in the filter media.
Backflushing is not magic, but it can lengthen the effective life of your shower filter.

When you back flush the shower filter you mention to remove the filter and put it back into the casing facing the opposite direction it once was.
Does that mean we keep it in for a month facing the opposite direction, or do we just run about 10 minutes worth of water through it to flush it and then face the filter back in it’s original direction?
Hi Tina, you should just reverse the cartridge every month so that the water passes through in the opposite direction until the next month, when you reverse it again.
Does that clarify things?
Which direction do you originally put the filter in?
Hi Kelly,
You can put the filter in either direction originally. Shower filters that can be back flushed usually have a reversible cartridge.
The key is to reverse the direction once a month after the initial installation so the water runs through in the opposite direction from month to month.
